Publishing Guidelines

The following guides will help to get your articles published as quickly as possible. Adhering to these suggestions will speed the review and approval process and will save time for everyone.

  1. Preview your article while creating it, and do not submit your article until it looks good in the preview. An article that looks good will be accepted quickly, while one with too many visual problems may simply be rejected.
  2. Submit your article to the category that best suits the article's content. Your article will be moved to an appropriate category if necessary, but this may delay the approval process.
  3. Do not hesitate to suggest a new subcategory if you feel your article would be best suited to a category that does not yet exist. However, please submit your article and suggested subcategory to the existing category where you believe a new subcategory belongs.
  4. Make your article informative and on-topic for the category you are submitting to or suggesting, and check your spelling and grammar.
  5. If you use MS Word or another word processor to create your content so that you can use its spell checker, please save your finished article on your computer as plain text. Then open the file with Notepad before you copy out the text and paste it into the form field. This will ensure that special characters used only by the word processor will not be pasted into the form field along with the content. Please note that such non-text special characters embedded in your content may cause your article to be rejected.
  6. Use only those HTML tags that are explicitly permitted in your content. For security reasons, all other HTML tags will be disabled on submission of the form. This will make your article look funny, and will probably result in rejection of your article.
  7. To include a hyperlink in your article, use the 'a' tag, or anchor tag. A basic link to Google would look like this:
    <a href="http://www.google.com">Go to Google</a>
and the resulting link would be Go to Google. To modify this link, simply change the href attribute between the quote marks to the URL of your choice, and change the anchor text between the start and end tags to whatever you want the link to say.
  8. Objectionable content or verbiage will result in rejection of your article and may also result in revocation of your publishing privileges and cancellation of your member account. Objectionable content includes, but is not limited to, pornography, profanity, hate speech, and racial, ethnic, religious or gender slurs. Such decisions are at the discretion of our human editors and are not subject to appeal.
  9. Once an article has been approved and published, you will have the option of editing the article through your author interface. However, please note that editing an existing live article will remove that article from the site archives and return it to the approval queue with a status of "Pending". It will become active again only after the new content has been reviewed and approved.
